The volume of recycled metal depends on vehicle scrappage rates, collection efficiency, and, crucially, the metal price.
Why Recycling Responds to Price
Unlike mine production, which takes years to adjust, recycling responds relatively quickly to prices. When palladium prices are high, it becomes more profitable to collect and process scrap, so secondary supply rises and helps ease tightness. When prices fall, collection slows. This creates a natural, market-driven stabilizer.
